Main Street Card: Black Market
almost 6 years ago – Mon, May 21, 2018 at 12:30:26 AM

Greetings Backers,

Hope you're all having a pleasant weekend! Our weekend has been so pleasant, that we thought it might be nice to show you the darker side of Penny Lane. We know Penny Lane may seem idyllic, but it's not without a few shady areas.

Namely, there's the Main Street card, the Black Market:

Black Market

If you're ever feeling lucky, Black Market is the way to go. You may come out on top with a 5-cost Arboretum, though on the flip side, there's always the chance of a 1-cost Cottage. If you love a gamble and if none of the available lane cards are striking your fancy, then you may find yourself visiting the Black Market.

Black Market really starts showing its worth if you can combo it with the Dark Alley:

Not only does Dark Alley give you more options, it also gives you the chance to make it that much harder for your opponents to get the cards they need.

Alright, let's lighten things up after our trip down the Dark Alley. While developing Penny Lane we went through a lot (and I do mean a lot) of names and themes. Here's some early concept art that spurred Penny Lane into becoming the game it is today:

We're only $2k away from our next stretch goal! Thanks for your support, everybody!

Upgraded Mayor Meeple Unlocked, and a Designer Interview!
almost 6 years ago – Fri, May 18, 2018 at 09:39:46 PM

Greetings Backers,

While I was sleeping you all unlocked the Upgrade Mayor Meeple! The Mayor in Deluxe Editions will now be a stately 16mm. We're quickly racing toward our next stretch goal at $25k, a new Building Card: Estate! Now, I don't want to give too much away... but it certainly sounds like an estate could hold a lot of people, right?

One of the mad scientists behind Penny Lane, Mel Primus, recently sat down Gaming Trend to talk about the design process behind the game! Read the interview here.

Thank you so much for all your support so far! If you want to help the campaign out even more, you can spread the word on social media, visit us on Kicktraq, or visit us on BGG and thumb some images.

Thanks everybody!

almost 6 years ago – Thu, May 17, 2018 at 07:24:41 PM

Greetings backers!

Thanks to you, we've reached 100 likes on Facebook and 100 followers on Twitter, which means we've unlocked the social stretch goal! What is it, exactly? Well, we know a lot of you are Mint Works fans, so we're adding a Mint Factory building card to the Deluxe edition! Since this card was just unlocked we do not yet have art for it, but as soon as we do we will share it with you!

We're also getting super close to unlocking our $20k stretch goal, so we've updated the stretch goal graphic to reveal what's next! We have a new Housing card, Estate, unlocking at $25k. After that are a couple things a lot of people have asked for: 5th player rules at $30k, and a score tracker at $35k!

Main Street Card: Tower
almost 6 years ago – Mon, May 14, 2018 at 11:26:27 AM

Greetings Backers,

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend! Today we wanted to showcase one of the most dynamic cards in Penny Lane: one of the Main Street cards, the Tower:

The Tower
The Tower

Imagine this scenario: Your lane is looking great. You've got a few links connected, and your penny links are generating currency for you at the end of each turn, and you've even managed to get a couple extra victory points out of your point links. Suddenly, as the supply is refreshed, the Courtyard comes up:

The Courtyard
The Courtyard

This baby could net you 3 whole victory points... provided you can connect the links. You've got the cards to do it, but have another card that's not generating any extra points where it needs to be. Enter the Tower!

You quickly scoop up the Courtyard and place it on the end of your lane, then on your next turn you use the Tower's ability to swap it out with the other card. Those extra 3 points put you over the top, dumbfounding your opponents with your cunning, and you snatch victory!

I love the Tower for its ability to sneak up on players and force an unexpected end-game in scenarios like the one laid out above. We're excited to see how you all decide to use it!
